Brad's Famous Stromboli

Ingredients
  • pizza dough (store bought thawed or recipe in post for homemade)
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • ½ onion, diced
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 - 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp. tomato paste
  • splash of dry red wine
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • ½ tsp. dried basil
  • ¼ tsp. dried parsley
  • ½ tsp. red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. fresh ground pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Italian seasoning
  • fresh ground pepper
  • ¼ lb Provolone cheese from deli
  • ¼ lb pepperoni from deli
  • ¼ lb salami from deli
  • 2 tbsp. banana peppers, sliced small
  • ½ cup fresh Parmesan
  • sesame seeds
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400.
  2. In a medium pot over medium heat add olive oil.
  3. Once heated add onion and garlic and sauté for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add tomato sauce, paste and wine and bring to boil stirring frequently.
  5. Add spices and reduce heat to simmer.
  6. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Keep warm.
  7. Roll out dough into oval shape.
  8. Season with Italian seasoning.
  9. Top with Provolone cheese covering entire dough.
  10. Add layer of pepperoni.
  11. Sprinkle on banana peppers.
  12. Add layer of salami.
  13. Season with pepper.
  14. Sprinkle on Parmesan.
  15. Roll up into a long thin loaf resembling a baguette careful to tuck in all sides well.
  16. Sprinkle with some more Parm and sesame seeds.
  17. Bake on a baking sheet sprayed with nonstick spray for 15-20 minutes.
  18. Allow to cool slightly then slice.
  19. Serve with marinara.
