Pimm's Cup

If you've never had a Pimm's Cup... I feel sorry for you. But not to worry. I have an amazing recipe for you and once you've tried it out I can guarantee you'll be making it for years to come. Pimm's Cups have a very rich history. They are actually the official cocktail of Wimbledon. Therefore, as you might of guessed, they're English. Their gin-based and in order to make it, you must have a bottle of... Pimm's! Pimm's No. 1 is a herbal-based aperitif liqueur. It has a very unique, distinctive taste. According to legend, only six people in the world know it's exact recipe. It's flavor profile is extremely hard to describe. SO you'll just have to try it out for yourself! When it comes to Pimm's Cups all you really need to know are the basics. They include Pimm's liqueur, herbs, fruits, and a pretty garnish. Oh and they're delicious and best enjoyed in the warmer months as they are extremely refreshing. In the past I've made coolers full of Pimm's and brought them to the pool over the summer to sip on all day in the hot sun.

Although Pimm's contains gin, I like to add some extra. Because why not? With all the flavor elements I promise adding more won't make your drink taste too strong. One of my favorite gin brands is Watershed. It is from a distillery in Columbus, Ohio which I've had the pleasure of touring. They do really amazing things there, and I was extremely impressed after my visit. Their Four Peel Gin is light and smooth with  juniper as well as seven other botanicals.  This gives it a less overpowering junipery (is that a word?) taste as you will find in other brands of gin. If you've never checked out Watershed, please do and let me know your thoughts! They also make a mean bourbon and vodka!

To make my version of the Pimm's Cup I pour gin and Pimm's into a shaker with some fresh lemon juice and simple syrup. I then add in slices of cucumber, strawberries, and a couple mint leaves and muddle them. Add ice, shake, and strain into a glass with ice. Top your drink with some club soda.

To garnish, add a sliced strawberry and a mint sprig. These are going to knock your socks off. I'm definitely enjoying a few of these on my patio tonight. Happy Saturday and cheers!
