Basil Jamulep

Published: Jun 23, 2017 by Laura Lee · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

I don't think I've ever been happier that it's the weekend! To say the last couple weeks were busy is just a slight understatement. Unfortunately it is rainy and gross outside here in Columbus, so I'll be savoring this well-earned boozy beverage in the comfort of my living room.

The Basil Jamulep is a spin on Kentucky's classic Mint Julep (also on the blog if you're craving something more refreshing). This cocktail contains Jameson, fresh basil, lime juice, simple syrup and crushed ice. I like the sweeter notes of Jameson in this drink as opposed to the usual bourbon in the minty version. The cool bite of whiskey is balanced by the earthy flavor of basil.

**To make simple syrup bring about ¼ cup water to boil in a small saucepan. Add ½ cup sugar and stir until dissolved. Turn down heat and allow to simmer for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool before using. You can store whatever is leftover in the fridge in an airtight container.**

Add basil, lime juice and simple syrup to a shaker. Muddle leaves into liquid well. Add some ice and whiskey. Stir with a stirring spoon. Drain into a glass full of crushed ice. Garnish with basil leaves. Cheers to Friday!!
