Aperol Spritz

Published: May 29, 2016 by Laura Lee · This post may contain affiliate links · 4 Comments

How's everyone's long weekends going so far? Mine has been a blast! Yesterday I participated in the "Crawl for Cancer" bar crawl for the first time. You form a team with your friends, get matching tshirts, and bar hop all day. The proceeds from the entry fee go to cancer research. What's better than drinking free beer all day to support a great cause? Tonight though I'm taking it easy and sipping on an Aperol Spritz on my back patio. This is a great cocktail for summer because it's bubbly and refreshing. It's also a great cocktail to serve at your Memorial Day cookout because it's super easy to make and only contains three ingredients: 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 part Club Soda. An Aperol Spritz is a very popular drink in Italy. If you're unfamiliar with Aperol it is an Italian aperitif created in 1919 that has a sweet-bitter slightly herbal taste due to the fact that it's made from orange, rhubarb, gentian, and cinchona. It's very similar to Campari, however its slightly less bitter and has about half the alcohol content so you can sip on these safely all night. It's usually garnished with an orange slice, however I went with an edible flower to celebrate summer! Cheers!

Hey Laura, nice meeting you tonight at Tastings.. Love Aperol, I use it a lot as a balance to counter sweeter liqueurs. Keep in touch.
