  • 2 apples sliced
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 20 cinnamon sticks for mulling and garnishing
  • 1 tbsp whole cloves
  • 1 tbsp whole star anise
  • 3 cups spiced cider (or bourbon) add more or less to preference
  • apples hollowed out to use as cups

Instructions

  • In a large stockpot or Dutch oven pour in apple cider.
  • Add sliced fruit and spices (reserve enough cinnamon sticks for garnishes). Stir well.
  • Bring to boil then turn down to simmer for a couple hours.
  • Add spiced rum.
  • Ladle into hollowed out apples or glasses.
  • Garnish with cinnamon stick.

Notes

To hollow out apples: carefully slice off the top of the apple. You can use an apple corer like this one to remove the core. Just make sure you don't go all the way through the bottom. Then carefully use a pairing knife to widen the "cup" as much as you want. Using a spoon or melon baller remove the inside of the apple. Be sure not to poke through or go too thin or else your drink will leak.
Crockpot instructions: Combine everything (except for alcohol) into the crockpot. Add a couple hours to the cook time. This is a great option for serving at a party or large group gathering. You can leave the crockpot on warm all night for guests to serve themselves. Add alcohol at the end or leave on the side for guests to serve themselves.
