Calling All Jameson Lovers - The Cinnbuie

If you know me, you know how much I love Jameson.  Although I don't discriminate between the types of liquor I incorporate into cocktails I generally tend to prefer to drink whiskey myself.  My appreciation for Jameson began when I went to Ohio University (Go Bobcats!).  If you've been to OU and gone out on Court Street (especially to bars such as The Pub, Courtside, or Stephen's) you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.  Since my days in Athens, I've continued to experiment with new and creative ways to use Jameson. Therefore, I found it fitting for this delicious concoction I created to be my first post on Cuisine & Cocktails.

The Cinnbuie combines Jameson, Drambuie, cinnamon, orange, and lemon for a delicious mixture of flavor elements.  In my opinion, Jameson is smoother than other types of Irish whiskey. It also has a little hint of sweetness. If you are unfamiliar with Drambuie, I definitely recommend trying it.  It is a liqueur with a very unique spicy/sweet taste due to a combination of Scotch, honey, herbs, and spices. If you've ever had the classic cocktail a Rusty Nail, you're drinking Scotch and Drambuie.

I start out by making a cinnamon infused simple syrup.  This sounds fancy, but it is surprisingly easy to make! You simply bring water and cinnamon sticks to a boil in a small saucepan then reduce heat and simmer for about 12 minutes.  Next remove the cinnamon sticks, return the mixture to a boil, and add sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved then reduce heat to a simmer again for another 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.  Whatever simple syrup I don't use I store in Tupperware in the fridge.  It lasts a few weeks.

Cut an orange and lemon up into wedges.  The sweet/citrus of the orange and the tangy/bitterness of the lemon balance well with the cinnamon simple syrup.

Pour your Jameson and Drambuie into a shaker and squeeze your lemon and orange wedges in as well.  Add one entire orange wedge and muddle it into the liquid with a muddler to release the juice and some orange zest.  Then add the simple syrup and ice.  Shake and serve up in a martini class or over ice depending on your preference. I recommend double straining to keep any orange residue from getting in your glass.  If you don't have a double strainer - no big deal. To make it look pretty, garnish with a cinnamon stick and some ground cinnamon. Cheers!
